What we steward shapes who we become, and who we welcome.

 

We stand on a precipice — the good kind, the very best kind. By the end of this year, we anticipate closing on the sale of our building at 4101 Grove Avenue. One chapter closes; another opens, one we're still learning to imagine — with the good, holy work of discernment and prayer as we journey toward a new missional worship space that is truly, freshly ours.

 

A Good Year

2026 has been good to Seventh Street Christian Church:

• We've welcomed new members and deepened connection through Bible studies and events like Theology on Tap

• We've watched our Bagby Foundation grants at work through recipients like ACTS, VCU's PACE Center, and Belmont Community Resource Center

• Our justice ministry with RISC continues addressing affordable housing, mental health, and gun violence

• Beyond our walls, we've supported Side by Side, the Alma Fund, RVA Community Fridges, and the Daily Planet, to name just a few

This is what stewardship looks like in motion — not holding tightly to what we've been given, but letting it move through us, into Richmond.

Not Ours to Keep

So much of our operating budget is funded by endowments — investments made by saints of this church: Alvin and Ruby Bagby, Frances and Harper Darden, Leticia Cauthorn, among others. They gave in a way that has carried this congregation for decades. If not for their faithfulness, this church would very likely have closed its doors thirty years ago.

We are the stewards now. Not owners — stewards. Our time, our resources, our passion for the world beyond these walls — it's ours to care for, ours to tend, ours to give away wisely. It was never ours to keep, and it isn't now.

Two Ways to Respond

1. Share your wishes. Last year your wishes shaped our budget and outreach priorities — so we're asking again. What do you hope to see? Expanded children's programming, more outreach to a particular need, more volunteer opportunities — whatever it is, it helps us know where to focus.

2. Make your pledge. Your gift, alongside your voice, has a place in what comes next.
